Paying bills shouldn't be tedious, no matter the size of your business or volume of your payments. However, some finance teams spend too much time and energy manually downloading PDFs, finding banking details, setting up payments, and going through approval procedures. This extensive process is no longer necessary with Slash.
We just rolled out Bill Pay, a new feature built to minimize manual data entry while keeping you in full control of payment approvals. Our automated tools can save your finance team time on each and every bill while keeping important information aligned and accurate.
How it Works
The improvements to your bill pay process start with the first email. When a vendor sends you an invoice, you can forward it to a new dedicated email address that parses the PDF and extracts the information you’d normally enter manually, including:
- Invoice number and due date
- Line items and total amount
- Vendor details and preferred payment method
- Auto-generated notes so your approver knows what the payment is for
You may choose to forward your invoices to this address as you see fit, or you can set up automatic forwarding so it’s done instantly when you receive them. If you received an invoice PDF outside of the context of an email, you can take the PDF and drag it directly into the Bills tab for parsing. You can also edit specific fields during this process, which can be useful when you’re only paying a portion of a bill.
Over time, Slash learns your recurring vendors. If you've previously paid a vendor via ACH to a specific account, our system remembers that and pre-fills it on the next bill.¹ We can also notify the vendor's contact by email when payment is released.
You’ll see four tabs under Payments that show you where a bill stands:
- Bills: Invoices that have been uploaded or forwarded in
- Payment Requests: Bills submitted for approval
- Scheduled Payments: Approved and queued for a future date
- Sent Payments: Already on their way to the vendor
Permissions That Scale With Your Team
Not everyone should be able to access every invoice, and even fewer people should be able to approve payments. Bill Pay ships with a full permissions suite so you can match your real-world approval flow.
For smaller teams, one person can review and release bills end-to-end. For larger companies, head to Entity Settings → Users and assign roles to control who can upload bills, who can request payment, and who has final approval authority. You can adjust these any time as your team grows.
Bill Pay is now available on your Slash dashboard
We built this to give finance teams their time back without giving up control. To try it out:
- Open the Payments tab in the Slash app and grab your bill-forwarding email under “New Bill”
